What is Yoga Therapy?

According to the British Council for of Yoga Therapy:
“Yoga Therapy is the use of Yoga where there is a specific health need or needs.”

Yoga therapy is essentially a tool for empowerment – the timeless practices of asana, pranayama, mantra, mudra and meditation are synchronised to help restore and maintain health and well-being.

Yoga therapy is a whole-person discipline and recognises the interdependent nature of our physical, mental and emotional health. As such, Yoga therapy treats the individual and not the condition. Yoga therapy meets the individual where they are - a yoga therapist's role is as a compassionate guide.

What should I expect from my first yoga therapy session?

  • Your health needs and lifestyle etc. will be discussed

  • A body reading will explore habitual posture and a joint assessment will gauge general mobility

  • An assessment of your breathing will explore habitual breathing patterns

  • You will be introduced to practices specific to you and your health needs – you would be encouraged to practise these at home before the next session

  • We would typically end with a relaxation or meditation practice in which further insights could be gained

A one-off preliminary assessment session is £50 for 90 minutes and each subsequent session is £45 for 60 minutes.

A block 6 session booking - including the preliminary assessment - session is £250.

The preliminary assessment should ideally be face-to-face and thereafter can be face-to-face or on-line.
